Dr. Kuhu Roy writes,
The other
day, someone asked me if I charge for the grief support service.
"No."
"So, does someone fund your grief support
service?"
"No."
I don't expect everyone to understand why I do
this. Just like I don't understand why we always expect something in return.
But, there is also a flip side to this. Being taken for granted since I do this
free of cost in honour of Butter. So, when people fail to turn up, give no
reason, I just wish them well to understand that there are so many out there
who need this help and don't have any.
I have even been approached for collaboration just
because some find this 'sensational' because something like this was never
heard before in India. They see it as a business opportunity. I politely
decline. Loss of companion animals and seeking grief support thereon is still a
very big stigma. It has to be a sacred service, from the heart and with no
ulterior intent.
I know how the bereaved feel. The grief of loss
always becomes secondary, the loneliness after the loss, the fear of ridicule
of sharing the grief, insensitive remarks, they dent the already damaged soul.
My mission, with each support group meeting or a
one to one session, is to ensure that our most neglected tribe is empowered
with compassion to heal and believe in love again.
We are together in this.
