For those who have recently started following our page, the Bridging Rainbows Foundation (established September 2023), a section 8 non-profit based in Baroda, Gujarat, India, is dedicated to a rescued dog named Butter.
Before the inception of our non-profit, we have cared for the lifetime needs of more than four thousand stray dogs for over two decades, protecting the city's strays from impounding.
Presently, we have more than three hundred stray dogs under our lifetime care programme that completes the continuum of care (daily active feeding + spay/neuter + anti rabies vaccination + defending their rights + lifelong medical needs + end of life care and a dignified farewell that a stray seldom gets in his/her life.
We promote broadening the horizons of adoption and lead by example as we adopt senior stray dogs and dogs with special needs, as both are the most
marginalized in India.
Our awareness campaigns are aimed at promoting spay/neuter to end the man-stray dog conflict, with a concurrent need to introduce transparency in the Animal Birth Control Programme.
Our Give Animals a Brake campaign has had a national impact as the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways passed a directive to mention ‘Be Kind to
Animals’ in all the public transport vehicles of India.
In fond memory of Butter, we are also the first and only non-profit in India to provide no fee grief support to the bereaved who have lost their companion
animals (homed and un-homed) in India and abroad (presented at the International Society for Anthrozoology, 2024 and will be presented at the American Psychological Association, 2025).
